godot-scene-management — Claude Code skill: install
This skill covers Godot scene swaps, background loading, transitions, pooling, and state that must survive level changes.
npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-scene-management -a claude-codeWhat godot-scene-management does
The skill maps out threaded level loading with progress UI and a scene swap after THREAD_LOAD_LOADED. It uses ResourceLoader.load_threaded_request() to stage content while the game runs, while a transition manager can wrap the swap with a fade or wipe effect.
Its scripts cover async loading, scene pools, additive UI layers, SubViewport layouts, persistent data, and state restore. Other patterns handle %UniqueName references, transform-safe reparenting, and runtime script attachment.
Large scenes should not be loaded synchronously on the main thread, since that can cause hitches or a full freeze during a transition. State that must survive a swap belongs in an Autoload or persistent node because change_scene_to_file() removes the current scene and its local variables.
What it helps with
- load a large level in the background with progress feedback
- stage the next scene while gameplay continues
- wrap a level swap in a fade transition
- reuse bullets, enemies, or VFX through object pooling
- preserve state across scene changes
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up background loading with
ResourceLoader.load_threaded_request()and switch scenes afterTHREAD_LOAD_LOADED. - Add a fade transition between levels and place the manager in an Autoload.
- Replace repeated enemy
instantiate()andqueue_free()calls with a scene pool.

What does godot-scene-management do?
It provides patterns for scene loading and swaps, transition effects, background resource preparation, object pools, and state that persists between levels.
Should I use change_scene_to_file() to reset a level quickly?
No. The skill recommends resetting variables and moving the player to the start position instead of reloading the scene from disk.
