godot-project-foundations — Claude Code skill: setup and features
Guides Godot 4 project architecture with feature-oriented directory layouts, naming standards, and clean Git ignore rules.
npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-project-foundations -a claude-codeWhat godot-project-foundations does
This skill enforces architectural structure for Godot 4 games. Instead of lumping files into broad script or sprite directories, it organizes folders by game feature. It applies snake_case for project files, PascalCase for scene tree nodes, and mandates %SceneUniqueNames over fragile get_node() hierarchies.
Included GDScript utilities take care of foundational tasks. You get project_bootstrapper.gd for folder generation, global_event_bus.gd for decoupled signals, and async_resource_loader.gd for threaded scene transitions. Version control rules block .godot/ cache commits and set up .gdignore files for source art directories.
Running dependency_auditor.gd during standard development is explicitly discouraged because it exists only for troubleshooting import errors. The skill also expects Untyped Declaration under Godot project settings configured as Warn or Error.
What it helps with
- scaffold feature-based directory structures in Godot 4
- prevent committing heavy engine cache files via
.gitignore - replace fragile
get_node()paths with%SceneUniqueNames - implement background scene loading without locking the main thread
Example prompts for the agent
- Scaffold a Godot 4 project directory layout with feature folders for player and UI.
- Audit node names in this scene and replace hardcoded paths with %SceneUniqueNames.
- Generate a project .gitignore and configure the global event bus script.

Questions about godot-project-foundations
How to install godot-project-foundations in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add thedivergentai/Game-Dev-Agentic-Skills --skill godot-project-foundations -a claude-code in your terminal.
Why does the skill enforce feature folders over file type folders?
Grouping all scripts or textures into monolithic directories hurts maintainability as games grow. Keeping scenes, logic, and assets together within each feature folder keeps components self-contained.
How does this skill handle node referencing inside scenes?
It bans hardcoded get_node() paths because re-parenting nodes breaks them. Instead, it relies on %SceneUniqueNames to maintain stable node lookups.
