gjalla-test-audit — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Audits test suites to uncover false confidence, over-mocked logic, and assertions that conceal code regressions. Helpful when hardening test suites before major updates.
npx skills add gjalla/engineering --skill gjalla-test-audit -a claude-codeWhat gjalla-test-audit does
The skill examines your testing setup across five structured phases. First, it maps directories and distinguishes between isolated unit tests and integration tests that use real backends like PGlite or SQLite. Then it inspects tests alongside their corresponding source files to verify that real application code gets exercised.
It flags tests with heavy ORM mocking, assertions verifying hardcoded mock returns, and cases where business logic is copy-pasted directly into the test file. A mock chain that intercepts every query will pass even if database queries target non-existent columns.
Findings are grouped into four action tiers alongside bug reports. Once reviewed, the skill executes a staged cleanup: deleting useless test files, fixing inverted assertions, and revealing honest gaps in coverage.
What it helps with
- locate tautological mocks that pass regardless of schema bugs
- catch tests asserting wrong behaviors that match broken source logic
- purge redundant unit tests when real integration tests exist
- generate an accurate coverage deficit map before writing new tests
Example prompts for the agent
- Run an audit on the test suite to locate tautological mocks
- Check the database test layer and classify weak tests into tiers
- Prepare a staged test cleanup plan to eliminate redundant mocks

Questions about gjalla-test-audit
How to install gjalla-test-audit in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add gjalla/engineering --skill gjalla-test-audit -a claude-code. You can also place the skill file directly at ~/.claude/skills/gjalla-test-audit/SKILL.md.
What does gjalla-test-audit do?
It inspects both test files and real source code to identify tests that inflate coverage without catching regressions.
Which test flaws does the skill detect?
It identifies tests that reimplement logic without importing source code, heavy database mocks that hide query bugs, inverted assertions, and empty placeholder assertions.
