gjalla-breakdown — Claude Code skill: breakdown and install
This skill turns a finished feature spec into dependency-ordered work waves and small tasks. Use it before implementation when progress needs a clear structure.
npx skills add gjalla/engineering --skill gjalla-breakdown -a claude-codeWhat gjalla-breakdown does
gjalla-breakdown reads a feature specification or agent plan, extracts behavior and technical changes, and arranges the work into sequential waves. Tasks in the same wave can run in parallel; later waves wait for their prerequisites.
Each task gets an identifier such as W1-T1, a short change summary, exact file paths, dependency references, and an acceptance check. The breakdown also covers documentation, tests, and verification. A task is kept to 1–2 files so its diff stays small and reviewable.
Run the skill after the specification is ready. Its guidance keeps one specification below 20 tasks; a larger feature should be split into several specifications. The resulting breakdown stays beside the design so implementation status can be marked as each wave lands.
What it helps with
- split a feature specification into tasks
- order work by dependency
- group parallel work into waves
- define file paths and acceptance checks
- include tests and documentation in the plan
Example prompts for the agent
- Break this finished feature specification into dependency-ordered waves.
- Give every task an ID, exact file paths, and an acceptance check.
- Add testing and documentation tasks where the specification requires them.

Questions about gjalla-breakdown
How do I install gjalla-breakdown in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add gjalla/engineering --skill gjalla-breakdown -a claude-code, then check ~/.claude/skills/gjalla-breakdown/SKILL.md.
What does gjalla-breakdown do?
It turns a feature spec into small tasks grouped into dependency-ordered waves. Each task includes an ID, affected files, dependencies, and a way to verify completion.
When should I run gjalla-breakdown?
Use it after the feature specification or agent plan is written. Work inside one wave can proceed in parallel, while later waves depend on earlier ones.
