What geopandas does

The skill equips Claude Code to work with GeoPandas-style vector data. It covers loading and exporting Shapefile, GeoJSON, GeoPackage, Parquet, and PostGIS data, changing coordinate reference systems, buffering shapes, dissolving boundaries, spatial joins, overlays, and clipping.

Its guidance includes GeoSeries and GeoDataFrame, filtered reads, Arrow-backed file output, geometry operations, and map creation. Optional packages named in the skill cover interactive maps, classification schemes, PostGIS connections, basemaps, and cartographic projections.

Area and distance results depend on the coordinate system. Use a projected CRS for those calculations and check the layer CRS before running them.

  • Create an interactive map using the population column and save it to map.html.
