fable-fable — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Runs structured multi-agent workflows on Claude Fable 5.1 with staged execution and independent output verification.
npx skills add mrtooher/fable-mode --skill fable-fable -a claude-codeWhat fable-fable does
The skill delegates task control to @fable-orchestrator running on the Fable 5.1 model. The orchestrator lacks file writing or editing tools. Because of that, it cannot modify files directly. Work gets split and passed down to @fable-worker-sonnet and @fable-worker-haiku, while @fable-verifier validates the output.
This setup focuses on reproducible logs and tracked assumptions. Benchmarks from 2026-09-02 show execution costs roughly 1.1x token volume and roughly 2x wall-clock duration. Accuracy deltas remained flat across 16 paired runs. Running this pipeline on single-pass tasks adds ceremony without technical benefit.
Your runtime must support subagents alongside the model: "fable" flag. Before presenting final work, the system runs a mandatory delivery check through double-check. The orchestrator retains Bash access to execute test commands. However, its prompt forbids file writes through shell calls.
What it helps with
- orchestrate multi-stage programming tasks without direct file editing by the planner
- route draft generation to lower-tier worker agents
- run isolated verification on all generated artifacts before user handoff
- maintain a traceable audit log across deep engineering sessions
Example prompts for the agent
- Run this refactor on fable with deep work mode
- Stage this multi-file migration using fable on fable
- Execute task via fable-fable with full verification pipeline

Questions about fable-fable
How do I install fable-fable in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add mrtooher/fable-mode --skill fable-fable -a claude-code.
What does fable-fable do?
It orchestrates complex tasks by pairing a top-tier planning model with worker and verifier agents, keeping code generation separate from orchestration.
What prerequisites does this skill require?
It requires the fable-orchestrator, fable-worker-sonnet, fable-worker-haiku, and fable-verifier agent definitions, plus runtime support for model: "fable".
