What docker-compose-orchestration does

The skill hands the agent ready patterns for compose files. It walks through the services, networks, volumes, configs and secrets sections, shows a service built from an existing image and one built from a Dockerfile, and covers dependencies declared with depends_on plus the service_healthy and service_started conditions.

Multi-container setups get their own section. A frontend, backend and database example shows ports, environment variables, volumes and networks per service, with the backend waiting on the database health check. Advanced options are there too: command, working_dir, user, env_file, resource limits and logging settings.

The examples target Compose file version 3.8 and images such as postgres:15-alpine or redis:alpine. Running a different compose schema, or moving the same stack to Kubernetes, means rewriting the samples yourself.

What it helps with

  • write a compose file for a frontend, an API and a database
  • set startup order with a health check
  • move environment variables into env_file
  • attach persistent storage through named volumes
  • split services across separate networks

Example prompts for the agent

  • Write a compose file with separate services for the frontend, backend and PostgreSQL
  • Add a health check to the database service and start the API only once it passes
  • Create a named volume for PostgreSQL data and mount it in the database service
