databricks-core — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Guides Databricks CLI work around authentication, profile choice, and bundles. Use it before CLI tasks involving Databricks resources.
npx skills add databricks/databricks-agent-skills --skill databricks-core -a claude-codeWhat databricks-core does
databricks-core sets the workflow for Databricks CLI tasks: it checks the CLI version, covers authentication, and handles profile selection. The user chooses a profile for each operation, including when only one profile exists.
The skill includes CLI patterns for apps, jobs, clusters, warehouses, pipelines, and serving endpoints. Unity Catalog commands take catalog and schema as positional arguments. Object names must stay unchanged, while SQL identifiers with special characters need backticks.
It also covers bundle initialization, validation, deployment, and resource runs. Data questions or SQL generation are routed to databricks-data-discovery. Databricks CLI >= v1.0.0 is required, so an older installation needs an update first.
What it helps with
- list configured Databricks profiles
- select a profile for a CLI operation
- inspect workspace resources
- check a table schema
- validate and deploy a bundle
Example prompts for the agent
- “List my Databricks profiles and let me choose the workspace.”
- “Inspect
catalog.schema.tablewith Databricks CLI using profile<PROFILE>.” - “Validate the
bundleand deploy it to<TARGET>with profile<PROFILE>.”
