claude-peers-mcp — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Enables parallel Claude Code sessions on one computer to locate each other and pass data in real time using a local message broker.
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill claude-peers-mcp -a claude-codeWhat claude-peers-mcp does
This skill coordinates separate Claude Code sessions running side by side. It relies on a background daemon listening on localhost:7899 and storing state in ~/.claude-peers.db. Every session starts an stdio MCP process, pings the broker every second, and receives updates through Claude channels.
The toolset includes list_peers, send_message, set_summary, and check_messages. Agents can discover other instances across the entire machine or inside a specific git repository. Passing an OPENAI_API_KEY environment variable lets gpt-4o-mini summarize what each session is doing based on git state and recent files.
Push delivery breaks under API key authentication because development channels require a direct claude.ai login. You also need the Bun runtime and Claude Code version 2.1.80 or newer.
What it helps with
- coordinate tasks between frontend and backend terminal sessions
- pass context directly to another Claude Code instance by ID
- list running AI coding sessions inside the current git repo
- dispatch instructions into a running session using the CLI helper
Example prompts for the agent
- List all active Claude Code peers running on this machine
- Send a message to peer abc123 asking which endpoints it expects
- Check for any unread messages from other local sessions

Questions about claude-peers-mcp
How to install claude-peers-mcp in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill claude-peers-mcp -a claude-code in your terminal.
What does claude-peers-mcp do?
It links multiple local Claude Code processes through an SQLite broker daemon on port 7899, enabling peer discovery and real-time messaging between sessions.
Why does instant message delivery fail with an API key?
Channel push functionality depends on a claude.ai account session, so running Claude Code solely with Anthropic API key authentication disables push delivery.
