cabinet-ai-knowledge-base — Claude Code skill: markdown knowledge base
This skill sets up Cabinet, a self-hosted knowledge base and startup OS with markdown pages, agents that keep memory, cron jobs and embedded HTML apps.
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill cabinet-ai-knowledge-base -a claude-codeWhat cabinet-ai-knowledge-base does
Cabinet keeps everything as markdown files under data/. There is no database, and every save auto-commits to git, so page history comes for free. Agents are markdown files too: definitions live in data/.agents/active/<agent-name>/index.md, and the daemon appends results to memory.md.
The skill walks through install and setup. The quick path is npx create-cabinet@latest, then npm run dev:all starts both servers — Next.js on port 3000 and the WebSocket plus job scheduler on 3001. An onboarding wizard builds your agent team in 5 questions. A manual clone with npm install and a copy of .env.example to .env.local also works.
You need Node.js 20+, the Claude CLI (npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code) and macOS or Linux. On Windows you go through WSL, so check your environment before starting. Agent schedules are plain cron expressions in the schedule field, and any index.html inside a folder under data/ renders as an embedded app with no build step.
What it helps with
- stand up a self-hosted knowledge base without a database
- create an agent with a schedule and persistent memory
- wire cron jobs for recurring reports
- embed an HTML dashboard inside the workspace
- trace page edits through git history
Example prompts for the agent
- set up the Cabinet knowledge base and start the dev servers
- add a research agent scheduled every 6 hours
- create a Cabinet folder with an embedded index.html dashboard
