What c-location does

This skill equips coding agents with command syntax for the goplaces CLI tool. It supports keyword searches, venue detail lookups, and category filtering for places like coffee shops or gas stations. Transport routing defaults to --mode driving, while walking and transit modes are also supported. Geocoding runs automatically.

Proximity lookups strictly depend on macOS with location services turned on. Without system location permissions enabled, the CLI cannot resolve the current device position. Result accuracy and coverage depend directly on Apple Maps data in your area.

What it helps with

  • search nearby venues in Apple Maps from the terminal
  • generate walking or driving routes between locations
  • pull contact and location details for a specific place
  • find local spots by category without a browser

Example prompts for the agent

  • Search for coffee shops near downtown Austin using goplaces
  • Get walking directions from Zilker Park to South Congress Ave
  • Show details for place "Barton Springs Pool, Austin"

Questions about c-location

How to install c-location in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-location -a claude-code in your terminal. You can also save the file directly at ~/.claude/skills/c-location/SKILL.md.

## What This Skill Does

Queries Apple Maps via the `goplaces` CLI to search for places, find businesses nearby, and get directions between locations.

## CLI Tool: `goplaces`

### Common Commands

```bash
# Search for a place by name or keyword
goplaces search "coffee shops near downtown Austin"
# Find nearby places by category
goplaces nearby "pizza"
goplaces nearby "gas station"
# Get directions between two locations
goplaces directions "Austin TX" "San Antonio TX"
goplaces directions --mode walking "Zilker Park" "South Congress Ave"
# Get details about a specific place
goplaces details "Barton Springs Pool, Austin"
```

### Transport Modes

- `--mode driving` (default)
- `--mode walking`
- `--mode transit`

## Usage Guidelines

1. Use natural language for location queries — `goplaces` handles geocoding automatically.
2. For "nearby" searches, the current device location is used unless a starting point is specified.
3. When providing directions, confirm origin and destination with the user if ambiguous.
4. Present results as a numbered list when multiple places are returned.

## Notes

- Requires macOS with location services enabled for proximity searches.
- Results are sourced from Apple Maps — coverage quality varies by region.
