azure-search-nav — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Creates Azure portal deep links to specific blades and menus for AKS, Arc-enabled Kubernetes, and Compute resources based on text queries.
/plugin marketplace add microsoft/skills
/plugin install aks-skills@skillsWhat azure-search-nav does
The skill takes a portal URL or a bare ARM resource ID together with a plain text query. Under the hood, it executes the PowerShell script references/Invoke-PortalSearchNav.ps1. The script queries the aks-search-direct-mid semantic search API and returns a deep link starting with https://portal.azure.com.
You need the Az.Accounts PowerShell module installed before running it. Authentication defaults to a browser window via Connect-AzAccount. In headless CLI environments without a window handle, the script fails unless you provide the -UseDeviceAuthentication switch.
Provider coverage is intentionally limited. The tool only supports resources under Microsoft.ContainerService, Microsoft.Kubernetes, and Microsoft.Compute registered in references/resource-types.json. Requests targeting any other resource provider trigger an error.
What it helps with
- build deep links to specific Azure portal blades using natural language
- locate menu items for AKS and Arc-enabled Kubernetes clusters
- generate target portal URLs from raw ARM resource IDs
- sign in to Azure from headless CLI environments using device-code login
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the portal blade for configuring node pools on this AKS resource:
/subscriptions/.../managedClusters/prod-aks. - Generate an Azure portal deep link to view networking settings for my virtual machine.
- Where in the Azure portal do I review diagnostic logs for this Arc Kubernetes cluster?

Collect **resource link** (portal URL or bare ARM resource ID) and **search query** from the user. 2. Run `references/Invoke-PortalSearchNav.ps1 -ResourceUrl '<link>' -Query '<query>'`. 3. The script signs in (browser by default; pass `-UseDeviceAuthentication` in headless/CLI environments), calls the search API, and prints portal deep links always rooted at `https://portal.azure.com`. See [references/README.md](references/README.md) for full parameter reference and API details. ## Error Handling | Error | Cause | Fix | |-------|-------|-----| | Resource type not enabled | `armProvider` not in `references/resource-types.json` | Confirm the type is in the enabled-provider list | | 401 from API | Invalid token, or wrong tenant selected | Re-run and select the account with access to the target subscription's tenant | | Empty results | No matching navigation item for the query | Try a different search term | | `Az.Accounts` not found | Module not installed | `Install-Module Az.Accounts -Scope CurrentUser` | | Browser sign-in fails (no window handle) | Headless/CLI environment | Re-run with `-UseDeviceAuthentication` |
