What azure-advisor does

For aggregate results, the skill uses advisor_recommendation_summary; for individual recommendations and affected resources, it uses advisor_recommendation_list. You can browse recommendation types with advisor_metadata_list or retrieve one by ID with advisor_metadata_get. Service-retirement requests go through a summary or list as well.

The skill can complete, dismiss, postpone, or reactivate a recommendation with advisor_recommendation_update, after asking for confirmation. First establish the subscription or service-group scope. A resource-group scope requires a subscription, and a capped list must not be treated as a complete count. The skill does not perform fixes; remediation requests go to azure-advisor-actionability.

What it helps with

  • summarize Azure Advisor recommendations
  • find individual recommendations and affected resources
  • browse recommendation types or retrieve one by ID
  • change a recommendation’s status after confirmation
  • review service-retirement recommendations

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show me an Azure Advisor summary for this subscription.
  • List the recommendations and affected resources in this scope.
  • Postpone this recommendation after asking me to confirm.

# Azure Advisor

## Quick reference

Prefer Azure Advisor MCP tools over Resource Graph or generic ARM tools.

| Intent | Tool |
|---|---|
| Counts, breakdowns, rankings, or top types | `advisor_recommendation_summary` |
| Individual recommendations or affected resources | `advisor_recommendation_list` |
| Complete, dismiss, postpone, or reactivate | `advisor_recommendation_update` |
| Browse recommendation types | `advisor_metadata_list` |
| Get one type by ID | `advisor_metadata_get` |
| Retrieve remediation | `advisor_remediation_get`, then `azure-advisor-actionability` |

## Workflow

1. Identify subscription or service-group scope. Resource-group scope requires a subscription.
2. Reuse known scope and identifiers; ask only for missing values.
3. Use `summary` for aggregates and `list` for records. Never count a capped list.
4. Present only returned data, including truncation, access limitations, and errors.

Route requests to fix one recommendation to the `azure-advisor-actionability` skill. Otherwise choose the tool from the table, including `summary` or `list` for service retirements.

## Safety

Confirm before recommendation-state updates. The actionability skill owns remediation safeguards.
