arduino-project-builder — Claude Code skill: full Arduino project

Turns requirements into a complete Arduino project: firmware, sensors, actuators, networking, power. Useful when you need a working scaffold, not a snippet.

What arduino-project-builder does

The skill walks through five stages: requirements gathering, architecture design, code assembly, testing and validation, documentation. Bundled examples cover an environmental monitor, a robot controller, an IoT device, home automation and a data acquisition system. File generation is handled by scripts/scaffold_project.py, which writes config.h, main.ino, platformio.ini and a README.

The scaffold targets UNO, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi Pico. For another board or a vendor framework, the skill tells you to reuse the requirements and architecture steps and write a toolchain-specific implementation instead of stretching the script's claimed support. Run uv run --no-project scripts/scaffold_project.py --list to see project types, so uv has to be on the machine before anything else.

A generated scaffold is not hardware validation. The skill keeps build, upload, hardware, system and deployment proof separate, and asks you to fill in a board profile first: exact board, framework, toolchain, versions, pins, memory, power, protocols and a recovery path. Skip that and the work stalls at the architecture stage.

What it helps with

  • assemble firmware with sensors and actuators into one project
  • map component connections and data flow before writing code
  • generate a PlatformIO scaffold with platformio.ini and config.h
  • document wiring, usage and a recovery path for the board
  • check memory usage and timing before flashing

Example prompts for the agent

  • build a weather station on esp32 with a temperature sensor and MQTT output
  • scaffold a robot on uno with motors and obstacle avoidance
  • fill the board profile for Raspberry Pi Pico and build an SD-card data logger

How to install arduino-project-builder

1Skills CLI (Vercel)

npx skills add wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --skill arduino-project-builder -a claude-code

2Manually: put the files in place

~/.claude/skills/arduino-project-builder/SKILL.md

Questions about arduino-project-builder

How do I install arduino-project-builder in Claude?

Run npx skills add wedsamuel1230/embedded-engineering-skills --skill arduino-project-builder -a claude-code. The skill file then sits at ~/.claude/skills/arduino-project-builder/SKILL.md.

What does arduino-project-builder do?

It builds a complete embedded project from requirements: architecture, code, validation and documentation. The scaffolding itself is done by scripts/scaffold_project.py.

Which boards does the scaffold support?

UNO, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi Pico. For other boards the skill suggests redoing the requirements and architecture steps and writing the implementation for your own toolchain.

# Arduino Project Builder

Assemble complete, working Arduino projects from requirements. This skill combines multiple patterns (sensors, actuators, state machines, logging, communication) into cohesive systems.

## Quick Start

**List available project types:**
```bash
uv run --no-project scripts/scaffold_project.py --list
```

**Create a complete project:**
```bash
uv run --no-project scripts/scaffold_project.py --type environmental --board esp32 --name "WeatherStation"
uv run --no-project scripts/scaffold_project.py --type robot --board uno --output ./my-robot
```

**Interactive mode:**
```bash
uv run --no-project scripts/scaffold_project.py --interactive
```

## Intake And Evidence Boundary

Before assembling a project, read [the shared contract](../../docs/arduino-skill-contract.md)
and fill [the board profile](../../docs/board-support/board-profile-template.md).
Record the exact board, framework, toolchain, versions, pins, memory, power,
protocols, and recovery path. Keep build, upload, hardware, system, and
deployment proof separate; a generated scaffold is not hardware validation.

The scaffold script emits its supported board targets and PlatformIO structure.
For another board or vendor framework, reuse the requirements and architecture
workflow, then provide a toolchain-specific implementation rather than changing
the script's claimed support.
