airtable-cli — Codex skill for Airtable data
This skill lets Codex inspect and change Airtable data through airtable-mcp. Use it for bases, tables, fields, records, searches, and filters.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill airtable-cli -a codexWhat airtable-cli does
airtable-cli gives Codex a way to work with Airtable through the airtable-mcp command line interface. It can locate bases, inspect tables and records, update data, manage fields, and run text searches or structured filters.
The workflow starts by discovering the tools exposed by the MCP server with airtable-mcp tools. The agent can then inspect a tool’s flags through airtable-mcp <tool> --help before running it. Tool names and argument shapes come from the server at runtime, so they can change between releases. JSON input through stdin is available for more involved requests, and record writes use field IDs.
An Airtable personal access token (PAT) is required. Set AIRTABLE_TOKEN or save credentials with airtable-mcp configure; the token must carry the scopes needed by the selected tools. Without a token, the CLI cannot make Airtable requests.
What it helps with
- locate a specific Airtable base
- list tables and records from a base
- filter records by exact field values
- search large tables with free-text queries
- update several record fields with JSON input
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the Airtable base named “Project Tracker” and list its tables.
- Read records from table
tblL4GpTfEz8byRsW, returnNameandStatus, and keep rows whose status isDone. - Use
update-records-for-tableto change an Airtable record, passing the request body as JSON through stdin.
