viv — Claude Code plugin: built-in Viv expert
Makes Claude fluent in Viv, the system for building simulated worlds where stories grow out of what characters do.
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
/plugin install viv@claude-communityWhat viv does
The plugin keeps a local, synced copy of the Viv codebase — language reference, compiler source, runtime source. Bundled commands let Claude search that copy whenever a question comes up, so answers rest on the actual code rather than guesswork.
The skills cover the whole loop. /viv:setup installs the compiler and runtime and configures your environment. /viv:write turns a brief into Viv code and compiles it before showing you. /viv:fix diagnoses compiler or runtime errors. Rounding it out: /viv:design for worldbuilding and architecture, /viv:build for host adapters and test harnesses, plus /viv:critique, /viv:study and /viv:ask. Skills are global; invoke them as /viv:ask or the short /ask.
You need Claude 2.1.85 or newer and Git 2.25 or newer. The utility commands are bash scripts, and they misbehave under native Windows shells, so on Windows run Claude inside WSL 2. After installing, restart the session completely — /reload-plugins won't bring the plugin up.
What it helps with
- install the Viv compiler and runtime in a fresh project
- generate Viv code from a short scene brief
- trace a compiler error back to its cause
- plan a storyworld and its entity schema
- review a Viv codebase for gaps and tweaks

Questions about viv
How do I install viv in Claude Code?
Add the marketplace first: /plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community. Then install the plugin: /plugin install viv@claude-community. Restart your Claude session afterwards, since the plugin only loads on a fresh start.
What does the viv plugin do?
It gives Claude working knowledge of Viv. Ask for code, an error fix or a world design, and Claude looks it up in its bundled copy of the Viv source before answering.
Can I use viv on Windows?
Yes, if Claude runs inside WSL 2. The plugin's utility commands are bash scripts and don't run reliably in native Windows shells.
