What databricks does

The plugin ships a set of skills covering the Databricks CLI and auth, Lakebase Postgres, Model Serving, Lakeflow Jobs, Spark Declarative Pipelines, Declarative Automation Bundles and the move from classic compute to serverless. Other skills handle Vector Search, Unity Catalog, MLflow and the Python SDK.

Hooks come along too. One primes the session with project context, another explains an auth failure when it happens. The databricks-setup and databricks-doctor commands help you configure the environment and then check it.

The marketplace route installs every stable skill at once, with no picking and choosing. Experimental skills stay behind the Databricks CLI, which has to be version 1.0.0 or newer. Want just one skill? The marketplace won't do it.

What it helps with

  • sort out Databricks CLI authentication and profile choice
  • build a TypeScript app on AppKit
  • define a Lakeflow job with triggers and alerts
  • deploy resources with Declarative Automation Bundles
  • move classic-compute workloads to serverless

Example prompts for the agent

  • Set up a Databricks CLI auth profile for this project
  • Write a bundle config that deploys this job
  • Run a Databricks environment check and tell me what's missing

What does the databricks plugin do?

It feeds the agent skills about Databricks products: CLI, Lakebase, Model Serving, Lakeflow Jobs, pipelines, bundles, Vector Search and Unity Catalog. Hooks add session context and auth-failure hints.

How is the marketplace install different from the Databricks CLI?

The marketplace pulls in all stable skills together and brings commands with hooks. The CLI lets you choose one skill and reach experimental ones, but it requires Databricks CLI 1.0.0+.
