budgetclaw — Claude Code plugin: spend tracking and caps
Tracks spend per project and branch, watches your budget caps, and kills the session when a cap is breached.
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community
/plugin install budgetclaw@claude-communityWhat budgetclaw does
budgetclaw ships a /spend slash command and a session-start hook for Claude. The command reports what you have spent broken down by project and branch, which budget limits are active, and any breach locks. The hook prints a short spend summary whenever a new session starts; if budgetclaw is missing, it says so instead.
The monitor itself is a separate install: curl -fsSL https://roninforge.org/get | sh, then budgetclaw init. Skip that and the session-start hook has nothing to report. Caps are set per project and per branch, and enforcement runs through SIGTERM, so the process is terminated rather than merely flagged.
Inside the plugin there is a manifest at .claude-plugin/plugin.json, the hook file hooks/hooks.json, and the skill skills/spend/SKILL.md that backs the slash command.
What it helps with
- see what a single project has already cost
- compare spend across working branches
- set a spending ceiling and stay under it
- get a budget summary the moment a session opens
- find out why a session was cut short
Example prompts for the agent
- Show my current spend for this project and branch
- Which budget limits are active right now?
- Are there any breach locks on this project?

Questions about budgetclaw
How do I install budgetclaw in Claude Code?
From the marketplace: run /plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-community first, then /plugin install budgetclaw@claude-community.
What does budgetclaw do?
It reports spend by project and branch, shows active budget limits and breach locks, and terminates the process with SIGTERM once a cap is exceeded.
What has to be in place before the plugin works?
The monitor itself: curl -fsSL https://roninforge.org/get | sh followed by budgetclaw init. Without it the session-start hook only reports that budgetclaw is missing.
