azure-cost-health-check — GitHub Copilot plugin: how to install
Displays Azure spend, forecasts, budget alerts, and AI billing directly in a GitHub Copilot canvas. Useful for tracking cloud expenses without leaving the editor.
copilot plugin install azure-cost-health-check@awesome-copilotWhat azure-cost-health-check does
The plugin opens an interactive canvas in GitHub Copilot to monitor Azure infrastructure spend. It displays current usage, period forecasts, budget thresholds, anomalies, and Azure Advisor recommendations in one place. AI billing analysis appears alongside standard cost drivers.
Operation is read-only. Suggested remediations never execute automated infrastructure writes. Changing subscriptions in the picker loads information asynchronously, and any sections waiting on permissions are not treated as zero cost.
Azure CLI 2.61 or newer is required with an active az login session. If your account lacks read access to subscription billing data, the canvas cannot display your figures.
What it helps with
- compare Azure spending against forecasts and budget thresholds
- inspect AI service billing drivers alongside regular infrastructure
- review cost anomalies and Advisor recommendations without write risks
Example prompts for the agent

- Open Azure Cost Health Check so I can review budget alerts and forecasted spend for my subscription

# Azure Cost Health Check See Azure spend, forecasts, budgets, anomalies, Advisor recommendations, and AI billing together in a read-only Copilot dashboard. ## Install In GitHub Copilot, open **Customize → Plugins**, add the `microsoft/azure-dev-tools` marketplace (ID `azure-dev-tools`) using the marketplace gear, and install **Azure Cost Health Check** when available. The full plugin includes its canvas and launcher skill. The CLI equivalent is: ```sh copilot plugin marketplace add microsoft/azure-dev-tools copilot plugin install azure-cost-health-check@azure-dev-tools ``` Reopen Copilot and start a new chat. You need Azure CLI 2.61+ signed in with read access to the subscriptions and billing data you want to see. The [canvas-only install folder at the latest tag](https://github.com/microsoft/azure-dev-tools/tree/azure-cost-health-check-latest/canvases/azure-cost-health-check/com.github.copilot/extensions/azure-cost-health-check) installs without the launcher skill, and its [README](https://github.com/microsoft/azure-dev-tools/blob/azure-cost-health-check-latest/canvases/azure-cost-health-check/README.md) follows that moving tag. Version 0.4.5 is pinned by the [immutable canvas-only install folder](https://github.com/microsoft/azure-dev-tools/tree/azure-cost-health-check-v0-4-5-bf89cc8/canvases/azure-cost-health-check/com.github.copilot/extensions/azure-cost-health-check) and [immutable README](https://github.com/microsoft/azure-dev-tools/blob/azure-cost-health-check-v0-4-5-bf89cc8/canvases/azure-cost-health-check/README.md). Both tags currently identify the released 0.4.5 package. See [installation notes](docs/implementation.md#install) for the full-plugin version-pinned command and canvas-only safety guidance. ## Try it Ask **Open Azure Cost Health Check in real mode for my subscription**. 1. Use **Choose subscriptions** to select the intended scope. 2. Select **Refresh** and review **Cost drivers**, forecasts, native alerts, and AI billing. 3. If sign-in fails, complete `az login` in a terminal and use **Refresh subscriptions** before trying **Refresh** again. When you select new subscriptions and choose **Apply**, the picker closes immediately while the dashboard continues loading the selected scope. A loading or permission-limited section is not zero cost; remediation suggestions do not authorize writes. ## What you can do - Compare current spend with forecasts and budgets in one read-only dashboard. - Spot anomalies, alerts, and Advisor recommendations that need attention. - Review AI billing alongside other cost drivers without treating missing data as zero. ## Prompts to try > Open Azure Cost Health Check in real mode for my subscription. > Open Azure Cost Health Check so I can review budget alerts and forecasted spend for my subscription. For source builds, data coverage, and security behavior, see [implementation notes](docs/implementation.md).
