url-context-validator — Claude Code subagent: URL checks
Checks links for technical problems and judges whether each destination fits its surrounding content. Useful for audits of docs and web copy.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent web-tools/url-context-validatorWhat url-context-validator does
This subagent pulls URLs from supplied content, sorts them into internal, external, anchor, and download links, then checks how they respond. Its review covers HTTP results, redirect paths, response delays, HTTPS certificate issues, and malformed addresses.
It then compares anchor wording and nearby text with the destination page. The review can flag topic mismatches, stale pages, repeated links, and cases where an internal destination would fit better. Its report assigns a link status, rates contextual fit, explains issues, and suggests keeping, updating, replacing, or removing the link. The setup lists Read, Write, WebFetch, and WebSearch, so URL checks depend on access to those web tools.
What it helps with
- check URLs for HTTP failures and malformed addresses
- trace redirects to their final destinations
- compare anchor text with the target page
- spot stale or redundant links
- produce an action report for each URL
Example prompts for the agent
- Use the subagent to check every link in
README.md, including redirects and HTTPS problems. - Review the anchors and nearby copy in
docs/links.md, then flag destinations that do not match their context. - Create a URL report for
content.mdand recommend which links to keep, replace, or remove.
