What Infrastructure Engineer does

The subagent covers the CoreAI DIY stack: Container Apps for hosting, Cosmos DB for documents, Blob Storage for media, Container Registry for images. Infrastructure lives in Bicep and ships through the Azure Developer CLI. Docker Compose brings the project up locally, though emulators are not an option on Apple Silicon — the README points to the Azure free tier instead, with a Cosmos connection string dropped into src/backend/.env.

Bicep is split by job. app-hosting.bicep builds the Container Apps environment, data-services.bicep covers Cosmos DB and Blob, ai-services.bicep wires up Azure OpenAI, identity-rbac.bicep handles managed identities and roles, observability.bicep adds Application Insights and Log Analytics. infra/main.bicep pulls them together. Routine work comes with steps: a new environment variable travels through Bicep parameters, Container App secrets, src/backend/app/config.py and the .env.example files.

House rules are baked in, and they apply to you too. Parameterized Bicep with defaults, managed identity over keys, secrets in Key Vault or Container App secrets. Connection strings stay out of the code, .env stays out of the repo. For debugging it reaches for az containerapp logs show, az cosmosdb show and azd status — none of which return anything until you authenticate against Azure.

What it helps with

  • wire a new Azure resource into infra/main.bicep
  • move a secret out of code and into Container App secrets
  • find out why azd up fails partway through a deploy
  • bring the local stack up with docker compose up -d
  • add an environment variable across Bicep, config.py and .env.example

Example prompts for the agent

  • Add Azure OpenAI to the infra: a new module under infra/modules/ and a reference from infra/main.bicep
  • Pull the Container App logs and tell me why the deploy broke
  • Move COSMOS_KEY into Container App secrets and update identity-rbac.bicep

Questions about Infrastructure Engineer

How do I install Infrastructure Engineer in Claude Code?

Drop the subagent file at .claude/agents/infrastructure.md in your project root.

What does Infrastructure Engineer do?

It runs CoreAI DIY infrastructure on Azure: edits Bicep modules, configures Container Apps, Cosmos DB and Blob Storage, and helps with azd deployments.

Which tools does the subagent have?

read, edit, search and execute. The last one is what runs commands like az containerapp logs show and azd status.

cd src/frontend && pnpm install && pnpm dev
```
### Azure Deployment
```bash
azd auth login        # Authenticate
azd up                # Deploy everything
azd deploy # Deploy app changes only
azd down # Tear down resources
```
## Environment Variables
### Backend (`src/backend/.env`)
```env

  name: 'app-${resourceToken}'
  location: location
  properties: {
    environmentId: containerAppsEnvironment.id
    configuration: {
      ingress: {
        external: true
        targetPort: 8000
        transport: 'auto'
      }
      secrets: [
        { name: 'cosmos-key', value: cosmosKey }
      ]
    }

## Common Tasks

### Add New Environment Variable
1. Add to `infra/main.bicep` parameters
2. Add to Container App secrets/env
3. Add to `src/backend/app/config.py`
4. Update `.env.example` files

### Add New Azure Resource
