azure-advisor — Claude Code plugin: Azure recommendations and fixes
This plugin pulls Azure Advisor recommendations, flags resources hit by service retirements, and turns a finding into remediation steps. Useful when you need to know what in a subscription needs work.
/plugin marketplace add microsoft/skills
/plugin install azure-advisor@skillsWhat azure-advisor does
Two skills ship together. azure-advisor handles recommendation discovery, summaries, affected resources, metadata, service retirements and lifecycle updates. azure-advisor-actionability takes a single recommendation and resolves the command placeholders for the resource in question. If Advisor returns nothing usable, it falls back to public Microsoft Learn documentation and cites what it used, so you can tell where the guidance came from.
The plugin runs Azure MCP Server through npx, which inherits your local .npmrc. Install it on trusted machines only. A tampered .npmrc can make npx fetch and execute malicious code, up to remote code execution. Worth checking that file first.
You need to authenticate with Azure CLI or another Azure Identity credential that Azure MCP supports. A shared telemetry hook records skill and MCP tool usage; set AZURE_MCP_COLLECT_TELEMETRY=false to opt out.
What it helps with
- list Azure Advisor recommendations across a subscription
- find resources affected by a service retirement
- get remediation steps for one specific resource
- resolve command placeholders instead of hunting them down by hand
- cite Microsoft Learn docs when Advisor has no fix
Example prompts for the agent
- show me Azure Advisor recommendations for my subscription
- which resources are affected by this service retirement?
- walk through this recommendation and give me the remediation steps

# Azure Advisor Use Azure Advisor recommendations to understand optimization opportunities, identify resources affected by service retirements, and generate customer-ready remediation guidance. This plugin includes: - `azure-advisor` for recommendation discovery, summaries, affected resources, metadata, service retirements, and lifecycle updates. - `azure-advisor-actionability` for one-recommendation remediation, followed by resource-specific command placeholder resolution. When Advisor returns no usable remediation, it falls back to relevant public Microsoft Learn documentation. Responses identify whether guidance comes from Advisor or Microsoft Learn and cite documentation used for the fallback. ## Security > [!WARNING] > The `azure-advisor` plugin uses `npx` to download and run the Azure MCP Server, inheriting the local environment's `.npmrc` configuration. Install this plugin only on trusted devices. A compromised `.npmrc` configuration could cause `npx` to download and execute malicious code, potentially resulting in remote code execution. ## Telemetry The shared telemetry hook records skill and MCP tool usage. Set `AZURE_MCP_COLLECT_TELEMETRY=false` to opt out. ## Setup Authenticate with Azure CLI or another Azure Identity credential supported by Azure MCP, then install the plugin from the marketplace.
