Madeira lanches tender to operate Casino da Madeira

The Regional Government of Madeira has launched an international tender for the concession of Casino da Madeira after the current licence expires on December 31, 2026. Pestana Group, which has operated the casino through ITI since 1986 and held the Funchal gaming concession since 1968, will not receive an automatic extension and must compete with new applicants.

The tender is managed by the regional secretariat for tourism, environment and culture. Operators must demonstrate financial stability, technical expertise and operational experience before submitting commercial and technical proposals. The winner will receive exclusive rights to operate gaming in the Funchal zone.

Casino da Madeira sits on Avenida do Infante, minutes from the capital's centre. The floor holds 200 slots, six tables (two blackjack, two poker, two American roulette) and electronic roulette. The venue also houses restaurants, bars, a conference centre and a nightclub.

Pestana Group operates more than 95 hotels worldwide, 12 resorts, six golf courses, three development projects and two casinos. The group's second gaming property is in São Tomé and Príncipe, an island nation in the Atlantic 300 kilometres off the coast of Gabon.
