Ireland's gambling regulator signs cooperation agreement with Nevada Gaming Control Board

Ireland's gambling regulator, GRAI, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nevada Gaming Control Board. It is the authority's first cooperation agreement with a US supervisory body, and it sets a framework for exchanging expertise between the new Irish regulator and one of the oldest gambling watchdogs in the world.

The memorandum lands as Ireland's licensing regime for online betting and remote operators comes online; applications opened in February. Both regulators point to a growing need for international coordination given the cross-border nature of online gambling.

GRAI head Anne Marie Caulfield said the Nevada board's knowledge and experience matter to a young supervisor. 'We are pleased to have the support of the NGCB as a newly established regulator. The shared goal is consumer protection and public health.' NGCB chairman Mike Dreitzer confirmed the board's readiness to share best practices.

Earlier this month GRAI secured geoblocking of Ireland on Polymarket, the second major prediction market platform to take such measures. The regulator threatened High Court action against operators working without a licence. From 1 July 2026 every remote betting operator must hold GRAI permission to serve the country. Polymarket has restricted new account creation from Ireland and barred existing users from funding accounts or opening new positions.
