AI Discoverability, Page types, and more (September 2026)

Ahrefs closed September 2026 with five product updates. Two of them change the daily routine for technical SEO and analytics work: an AI Discoverability issue category in Site Audit and page types in Site Explorer.

The new audit category asks a second question of the same URL. Site Audit has long covered whether a crawler reaches the content and whether the page lands in the index. AI Discoverability covers whether a model that came for an answer, rather than for a link in the results, can read the page.

Page types split URLs by template inside Site Explorer, so metrics can be read per template instead of as a domain-wide average. A blog post, a product card and a filter page carry different intent and behave differently in search. Averaged into one figure, they explain little.

Both changes cut the same way: the site stops being a flat list of URLs. Issues are grouped by category in the audit, pages by template in the explorer. Reporting follows. A domain-wide traffic drop becomes type X falling while type Y grows, and that is a sentence development and content can work from.
