Flutter to cut up to 1,400 UK & Ireland jobs as it absorbs 40% Remote Gaming Duty

Flutter Entertainment will cut up to 1,400 jobs in its UK & Ireland division to offset higher UK gambling taxes. The group formally committed to the restructuring on 20 October 2026 and began notifying affected staff the same day.

Redundancies will hit offices in Leeds and Dublin, plus UK & Ireland employees at hubs in Porto and Cluj-Napoca. Around 240 cuts are expected in Ireland. The plan remains subject to legal notice and employee consultation.

Flutter employs 28,500 people worldwide. The 2025 Budget raised Remote Gaming Duty on online casino and slots from 21% to 40% from 1 April 2026, with a new 25% remote betting rate taking effect from 1 April 2027. The group estimates the pre-mitigation hit to adjusted EBITDA at $320m in 2026, with first-order mitigation expected to offset $85m that year, leaving net impacts of $235m in 2026 and $339m in 2027.

The job cuts form part of that mitigation. Most charges will be cash spending on severance and benefits; non-cash share-based pay charges will follow. Flutter aims to offset the tax rise through investment in its customer offering and market share gains. The group also plans to close up to 100 Paddy Power shops and expects to complete most restructuring by year-end 2026.
