NFL Confirms Outright Ban on Prediction Market Ads, Bars Sportsbook Partners From ‘General Advertising’

The National Football League has for the first time publicly confirmed a ban on prediction-market advertising during game broadcasts, in stadiums, club sponsorship deals and player endorsements. League communications director Tim Schlittner laid out the policy in a comment to Gambling Insider — until now it had existed only as an anonymous leak in January.

Sportsbook partners may advertise approved products only. Company-level branding is prohibited, as is any promotion of prediction markets. On 27 August the league extended contracts with DraftKings, FanDuel and Fanatics, granting all three rights to official data, in-broadcast advertising and use of league marks. All three operators run prediction-market businesses, but cannot show those products in NFL windows.

Stephen Miraglia, senior director of communications at DraftKings, confirmed that the company's general-brand campaign 'Take Your Game Anywhere', launched 31 August, does not air during NFL broadcasts. Every spot in league windows goes through pre-clearance. Outside those windows the company is free to advertise its full range.

The NFL remains the only major league with such a ban. The NHL signed Kalshi and Polymarket in October last year, MLB made Polymarket an official partner in March, MLS in January. Kalshi has placed branding in five MLB clubs, including a bar at Dodgers Stadium. The NBA has not yet signed prediction-market deals. The NFL's position aligns with its regulatory stance: in July the league criticised a draft rule by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and on 3 September chief compliance officer Sabrina Perel sent exchanges a letter objecting to specific contracts.
