verified-agent-identity — Claude Code skill: DID and x402 payments
This skill gives an agent an Ethereum DID on the Billions Network and a way through 402 Payment Required responses. Use it when an agent has to prove who owns it or pay for API access.
npx skills add BillionsNetwork/verified-agent-identity --skill verified-agent-identity -a claude-codeWhat verified-agent-identity does
The skill covers two jobs: decentralized identity and x402 payment. It creates an Ethereum DID on the Billions Network, links that identity to a human owner through ERC-8004 and the Attestation Registries, and proves ownership by signing a challenge. The second path starts when a server returns 402 Payment Required, where the skill builds a signed PAYMENT-SIGNATURE header so the request can be retried.
Under the hood it acts as a router. The agent loads reference/identity/SKILL.md or reference/x402/SKILL.md for the task at hand, then runs scripts from scripts/ after npm install. Node is the binary it needs. Identity state sits in $HOME/.openclaw/billions, including kms.json, defaultDid.json and challenges.json.
kms.json holds private keys, encrypted only when BILLIONS_NETWORK_MASTER_KMS_KEY is set. Set that variable before the first run and chmod 700 ~/.openclaw/billions right after it. The skill closes off improvisation too: a non-zero exit code stops the run, and minting keys by hand with openssl or ssh-keygen is out of bounds.
What it helps with
- create a DID and link it to a human owner
- prove identity ownership with a signed challenge
- build a
PAYMENT-SIGNATUREheader and retry a 402 response - list existing identities before running signing scripts
- lock the key directory down with chmod 700
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a Billions identity for me and link it to my account, start with `node scripts/getIdentities.js`.
- The API answered 402 Payment Required, build the `PAYMENT-SIGNATURE` with `buildX402Payment.js` and retry the request.
- Check that my DID is linked to an owner, then sign the challenge stored in `challenges.json`.

Questions about verified-agent-identity
How do I install verified-agent-identity in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add BillionsNetwork/verified-agent-identity --skill verified-agent-identity -a claude-code. The skill file ends up at ~/.claude/skills/verified-agent-identity/SKILL.md.
What does verified-agent-identity do?
It creates Ethereum DIDs on the Billions Network, links them to a human owner via ERC-8004 and the Attestation Registries, and signs challenges to prove ownership. It also builds the signed header needed to get past a 402 Payment Required response.
What does the skill need to run?
Node, plus npm install inside scripts/. BILLIONS_NETWORK_MASTER_KMS_KEY is optional, though without it the private keys in kms.json stay in plaintext.
