unreal-engine — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Guides the AI agent through project discovery in Unreal Engine repositories. It checks engine versions, inspects asset naming, and configures C++, Enhanced Input, or GAS.
npx skills add DSTN2000/claude-unreal-engine-skill --skill unreal-engine -a claude-codeWhat unreal-engine does
The skill enforces a zero-assumptions rule. Before generating any code, the agent searches for a .uproject file to identify the engine version, enabled plugins, and module dependencies. It then inspects the Source and Content directories. The agent checks existing character classes, naming conventions, and mapping contexts instead of guessing asset names.
It includes explicit workflows for UE5 Enhanced Input and the Gameplay Ability System. When working with GAS, the agent flags required dependencies like GameplayAbilities and GameplayTags inside Build.cs. It also guides UAbilitySystemComponent placement depending on whether the game uses dedicated servers or listen servers. Binary .uasset files cannot be parsed like standard text. Because of this limitation, the agent discovers assets via file searches and asks the user for Blueprint implementation details.
What it helps with
- inspect .uproject files for engine versions and active plugins
- bind Enhanced Input actions inside C++ character classes
- configure Gameplay Ability System dependencies in Build.cs
- locate input contexts and Blueprints in the Content folder
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up jump bindings for my character using Enhanced Input
- Check what dependencies my Build.cs needs for GAS
- Scan my Content folder for Input Actions and show their bindings

Questions about unreal-engine
How do I install unreal-engine in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add DSTN2000/claude-unreal-engine-skill --skill unreal-engine -a claude-code in your terminal.
What does the unreal-engine skill do?
It forces the AI assistant to inspect your Unreal Engine project layout before drafting code. It checks the .uproject configuration, folder structures, and existing C++ or asset setups.
Can the agent read logic directly from .uasset files?
No. Because .uasset files are binary, the agent can only identify their filenames, paths, and basic metadata on disk.
