trigger-setup — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Bootstraps Trigger.dev in an existing codebase, installs runtime and build packages, and configures your initial background task.
npx skills add triggerdotdev/skills --skill trigger-setup -a claude-codeWhat trigger-setup does
The skill handles Trigger.dev project initialization from scratch. It runs the setup wizard or executes manual steps when working within monorepos and non-interactive environments. The workflow installs @trigger.dev/sdk as a runtime dependency alongside @trigger.dev/build for development. Then it generates trigger.config.ts, includes it in tsconfig.json, and adds .trigger to .gitignore.
Headless sessions cannot complete login automatically. The skill triggers a resumable authentication flow, prints the authorization link, and waits for your confirmation. Version alignment is critical here: running CLI tools on a different release than the SDK will cause runtime warnings or build failures during dev and deploy steps.
What it helps with
- Initialize Trigger.dev inside an existing project
- Create
trigger.config.tswith correct directories and project references - Scaffold the first task with a unique identifier
- Handle CLI authentication in headless terminal environments
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up Trigger.dev in this project and generate a sample task
- Configure Trigger.dev manually for our monorepo
- Run the Trigger.dev development server and wire environment keys
