tailing-build-output — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Monitors build output in real time, catches errors as they stream, and patches source files before Webpack, Turbo, or Docker finishes.
npx skills add spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --skill tailing-build-output -a claude-codeWhat tailing-build-output does
The skill reads streaming terminal files to catch build failures early. It targets tools like npm run build, turbo build, docker build, or Vite. As soon as the log shows errors like Module not found, SyntaxError, or TypeScript failures, the agent extracts the line number and edits the source file immediately.
Warnings stay untouched until the process exits. Deprecated APIs and asset size alerts are gathered for the summary report instead of interrupting compilation. When watch mode is active, source modifications trigger an automatic rebuild without restarting the task manually.
Early source edits during Docker builds invalidate cache layers and force later steps to rerun. In Turbo setups, parallel tasks produce interleaved logs, requiring the agent to inspect each task stream separately.
What it helps with
- fix compiler errors before the build process finishes
- parse streaming terminal output for failing files and line numbers
- log deprecations and bundle size warnings for the final summary
- inspect parallel task outputs during Turbo builds
Example prompts for the agent
- Run
turbo build, watch the terminal logs, and fix compiler errors as they appear - Check the active build output in the terminal and summarize remaining warnings

Questions about tailing-build-output
How to install tailing-build-output in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add spencerpauly/awesome-cursor-skills --skill tailing-build-output -a claude-code in your terminal. The skill file is placed in ~/.claude/skills/tailing-build-output/SKILL.md.
What does tailing-build-output do?
It monitors streaming terminal files during builds, detects errors like broken imports or syntax bugs, and applies code fixes while the process is still running.
Does the skill fix warnings while the build runs?
No, it intentionally ignores warnings such as deprecations or asset size limits until the build finishes, listing them in the final summary report.

# Tailing Build Output
Watch a build process in real time via terminal files and fix issues as they appear.
## Workflow
### 1. Start or Find the Build
Either start the build yourself or find the terminal running it:
```bash
head -n 10 <terminals_folder>/*.txt
```
Look for commands like `npm run build`, `pnpm build`, `turbo build`, `docker build`, `tsc`, `vite build`.
### 2. Poll for Output
Read the terminal file periodically. Look for:
**Errors (fix immediately):**
- `ERROR` / `Error:` / `error TS`
- `Module not found` / `Cannot find module`
- `SyntaxError` / `TypeError`
- `Failed to compile`
**Warnings (collect for summary):**
- `WARNING` / `Warning:` / `warn`
- `Deprecation` / `deprecated`
- Unused imports/variables
- Large bundle size warnings (`asset size limit`)
**Progress indicators:**
- Webpack: `[XX%]`, `modules`, `chunks`
- Turbo: task completion logs
- Docker: `Step X/Y`
- TypeScript: file count
### 3. Fix Errors in Flight
When an error appears:
1. Extract the file path and line number from the error
2. Read and fix the source file
3. If the build supports watch mode, it will re-trigger automatically
4. If not, note the fix and let the build continue — it may reveal more errors
### 4. Summary Report
After the build completes (check for `exit_code` in terminal footer):
```
Build Summary:
Status: Failed (exit code 1) / Succeeded
Duration: ~45s
Errors fixed: 3
Remaining warnings: 2
- Large bundle: src/pages/Dashboard.tsx (450kb)
- Deprecated API: useRouter from 'next/router'
```
## Tips
- Don't fix warnings during the build — collect them and address after
- For `turbo build`, errors may appear in parallel task output — check all task logs
- Docker builds cache layers — if you fix a file early in the Dockerfile, later layers rerun
- TypeScript's `--noEmit` is useful for type-checking without a full build
