What skill-finder does

This skill organizes discovery and setup for assistant capabilities across GitHub and local catalogs. It starts with an initial triage step. Before looking up packages, it verifies whether the goal actually calls for a skill or if a basic instruction fits better.

Searches scan keyword indexes and category tags using references/skill-index.json or live GitHub API lookups. The runner tags each result with an origin badge. Before saving anything locally, it inspects permissions and asks for explicit approval.

Running the scripts requires curl alongside GitHub CLI 2.0+. You will also need Python or PowerShell. Missing gh breaks repository fetching and index synchronization.

What it helps with

  • locate agent skills matching a specific workflow or tag
  • determine whether an instruction works better than a skill
  • download vetted skill files into the local workspace
  • track favorite extensions and update local index records

Example prompts for the agent

  • Find a skill for managing Azure infrastructure
  • Inspect the details for pdf-parser and install it locally
  • Sync the skills index and list my starred items
