typescript-advanced-types · sickn33 — Claude Code skill: install and use
Teaches the agent generics, conditional and mapped types in TypeScript, and stays honest about where type checking stops.
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill typescript-advanced-types -a claude-codeWhat typescript-advanced-types does
The skill gives the agent a working reference for TypeScript's harder corners: generics, conditional types, mapped types, template literal types, utility types. SKILL.md sets the order of work and points at resources/implementation-playbook.md for the pattern write-ups. The agent is told to pin down the goal and constraints first, then propose steps and a way to verify them.
In Claude Code the install is npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill typescript-advanced-types -a claude-code; the file lands at ~/.claude/skills/typescript-advanced-types/SKILL.md. Same skill for Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and Gemini CLI, just a different -a flag. GitHub Copilot goes through gh skill install.
It will not check your types for you. This is guidance text, not a validator, and it does not stand in for tests or review in your own setup. A generic response type never inspects the object the server sent back, so API JSON still needs runtime validation. Skip that and the failure shows up on real data, not at compile time.
What it helps with
- trace why a generic resolves to
anyinstead of the expected type - type an API response with nested
items - derive a literal union from a set of string keys
- move a JS module to TypeScript without dropping checks
- replace
Record<string, any>in a config object with a real type
Example prompts for the agent
- Use the `typescript-advanced-types` skill: type the `/api/orders` response in `src/api/orders.ts` so `items` is fully described
- Walk through the mapped type in `src/config/schema.ts` and tell me why optional fields disappear, then rewrite it
- I need a template literal type for the `routes` keys — show one and assert it with `Expect<AssertEqual<Result, Expected>>`

Questions about typescript-advanced-types
How do I install typescript-advanced-types in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill typescript-advanced-types -a claude-code. The skill file ends up at ~/.claude/skills/typescript-advanced-types/SKILL.md.
What does typescript-advanced-types do?
It briefs the agent on writing and untangling advanced TypeScript types: generics, conditional and mapped types, template literals, utilities. Longer examples sit in resources/implementation-playbook.md.
Does the skill validate the JSON my server returns?
No. It only guides the type design, and a generic response type does not look inside the object that came back. Add runtime validation for API payloads yourself.

Also validate API JSON at runtime; a generic response type does not inspect the returned object.
