rolecraft — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Installs and manages AI agent skills across 90 targets from local folders, GitHub, GitLab, or SSH without external dependencies.
npx skills add rolecraft-sh/rolecraft --skill rolecraft -a claude-codeWhat rolecraft does
rolecraft distributes agent role definitions and skills into local projects or global system paths. The tool runs via npx rolecraft across 90 agent targets, including 65 verified environments. It also handles bidirectional conversion between SKILL.md and .mdc file formats.
Built-in commands scaffold new files using rolecraft init or download multi-skill bundles from text lists. For automated pipelines, rolecraft ci restores exact versions using a lockfile, while rolecraft verify validates skill integrity with content hashes.
The rolecraft doctor command inspects agent detection and your local Node.js environment. Without a working Node.js runtime, the CLI cannot execute.
What it helps with
- install agent skills from GitHub, GitLab, SSH URLs, or local directories
- distribute shared behaviors across multiple AI agents simultaneously
- convert agent instructions between
SKILL.mdand.mdcformats - lock skill revisions for reproducible CI/CD deployments
- verify installed skill files against cryptographic content hashes
Example prompts for the agent
- Install a skill into Cursor and Devin using
npx rolecraft install user/repo --cursor --devin - Check for newer versions of installed skills with
npx rolecraft check - Diagnose target agent detection and lockfile issues using
npx rolecraft doctor
How to install rolecraft
1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add rolecraft-sh/rolecraft --skill rolecraft -a claude-code2Manually: put the files in place
~/.claude/skills/rolecraft/SKILL.mdCopy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/rolecraft/
