reclaude — Claude Code skill: refactor CLAUDE.md files
Splits a bloated CLAUDE.md into a short root file plus a .claude/rules/ folder. Useful once your agent instructions grow past the point where you can keep them in your head.
npx skills add brianlovin/agent-config --skill reclaude -a claude-codeWhat reclaude does
The skill walks through your CLAUDE.md step by step. First it counts lines and labels the result: under 50 is fine, 50–100 is tolerable, past 100 and content should move out. Then it keeps only what belongs at the root — a one-line project description, non-obvious commands, links to rule files.
Everything else gets sorted into .claude/rules/ by topic, whether that is TypeScript conventions, testing patterns or Git workflow. It also hunts for instructions that contradict each other and asks which version you want to keep. There is a check for a ## Verification section with commands the agent can run after edits; if it is missing, the skill looks in package.json, a Makefile or a justfile and builds the section from what it finds.
Finally it flags content worth deleting outright: API docs, code samples, type definitions, generic advice. If a chunk about a tool or framework shows up across two or more projects and runs longer than 20 lines, the skill suggests turning it into a global skill under ~/.claude/skills/. The workflow orchestration step reads ~/.claude/skills/workflow/SKILL.md, so without that file the step has nothing to pull from.
What it helps with
- trim a CLAUDE.md that has grown past a hundred lines
- sort agent instructions into topic files under
.claude/rules/ - catch rules that contradict each other
- add a verification section with commands to run after edits
- lift repeated instructions into a global skill
Example prompts for the agent
- refactor my CLAUDE.md to follow progressive disclosure
- check the length of CLAUDE.md and tell me what to move into .claude/rules/
- find contradictions in CLAUDE.md and ask me which one to keep

Questions about reclaude
How do I install reclaude in Claude?
Run npx skills add brianlovin/agent-config --skill reclaude -a claude-code. The skill file then lives at ~/.claude/skills/reclaude/SKILL.md.
What does reclaude do?
It rewrites CLAUDE.md so the root file holds only the essentials and the details move into .claude/rules/. It also flags contradictions and adds a verification section.
What does the skill need to run in full?
The workflow orchestration step reads ~/.claude/skills/workflow/SKILL.md. Without that file the step has nothing to incorporate.
