progressive-blur — Claude Code skill: what it does, install
This skill creates a top or bottom CSS progressive blur with layered backdrop-filter masks. Use it for a soft fade at the viewport edge.
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill progressive-blur -a claude-codeWhat progressive-blur does
The skill produces HTML and CSS for a progressive blur at the top or bottom of the viewport. It builds the effect from several backdrop-filter layers, masks, and increasing blur values from 0.5px to 64px. Before generating the snippet, the agent confirms the side, area height, and z-index position relative to the UI.
Place .gradient-blur inside <body> near the top of the DOM, with visible content behind it. The backdrop-filter works on what sits underneath the layer. Keep pointer-events: none so the overlay does not block clicks. High blur values are GPU-heavy, so reducing the number of layers is the right check for low-end devices.
What it helps with
- add a soft blur along the top edge of a page
- create a bottom gradient blur over visible content
- tune blur strength through CSS layers
- place the overlay below modals but above page content
Example prompts for the agent
- Add a bottom progressive blur to the page with a height of 65% and explain where
.gradient-blurbelongs. - Create a top progressive blur for this interface and keep its
z-indexbelow the modal. - Reduce the progressive blur layers for a low-end device. Keep
pointer-events: noneso clicks pass through.

Questions about progressive-blur
How do I install progressive-blur in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill progressive-blur -a claude-code, then run npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill progressive-blur -a claude-code again. The skill file is at ~/.claude/skills/progressive-blur/SKILL.md.
What does progressive-blur do?
It creates a progressive blur at the top or bottom of a viewport. The generated CSS uses several masked backdrop-filter layers so the blur grows toward the edge.
What should I check before using progressive-blur?
There must be a background or other content behind .gradient-blur, since backdrop-filter blurs what is underneath. On low-end devices, reduce the number of layers and keep pointer-events: none enabled.

# Progressive Blur Skill
## Workflow
1. Confirm placement (top or bottom), height, and z-index relative to UI.
2. Provide the matching snippet and a short usage checklist.
3. Offer only targeted tweaks (height, blur steps, direction, opacity stops).
## Usage checklist
- Insert the HTML inside `<body>`.
- Keep the `.gradient-blur` element near the top of the DOM.
- Ensure the background behind it exists (backdrop-filter blurs what is behind).
- Adjust `z-index` to sit above content but below modals.

## Customization knobs
- Direction: flip `to top` ↔ `to bottom`.
- Height: adjust `.gradient-blur` height percentage.
- Strength: change blur values (0.5px → 64px).
- Steps: add/remove layers to control smoothness.
## Common pitfalls
- `backdrop-filter` needs content behind it; it will not blur a flat background.
- High blur values are GPU-heavy; reduce steps on low-end devices.
- Ensure `pointer-events: none` stays to avoid blocking clicks.
## Questions to ask when specs are missing
- Should the blur start from the top or bottom?
- How tall should the blur area be?
- Is performance a concern on lower-end devices?
