polars — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
The skill gives agents reference material on Polars, the Python DataFrame library with lazy evaluation and an expression-based API for ETL and pandas migration.
npx skills add K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills --skill polars -a claude-codeWhat polars does
The skill ships reference material on Polars, a columnar DataFrame library for Python with Arrow interoperability built for ETL, analytics and pandas migration. It covers the expression-based API, lazy evaluation through LazyFrame, group_by aggregations, window functions via over(), joins, concatenation and I/O for CSV, Parquet and JSON.
Access is limited to the Read tool: the agent reads SKILL.md and pulls in references/core_concepts.md, references/operations.md and references/io_guide.md only when a task needs them, without running code on its own.
It assumes Python 3.10 or newer for Polars 1.44.2 and installs through uv pip install, with extras for Excel, databases, cloud storage and GPU as separate packages. Cloud, GPU and BigQuery examples need provider setup of their own, worth checking before you lean on them in a pipeline.
What it helps with
- migrate pandas code to Polars
- build a lazy ETL pipeline with query optimization
- compute group-by aggregations and window functions
- read and write CSV, Parquet and JSON files
- join and concatenate multiple DataFrames
Example prompts for the agent
- Rewrite this pandas script in Polars using lazy evaluation
- Build a group_by aggregation with an over() window function in Polars
- Show how to join two Polars DataFrames and write the result to Parquet
