paper-writing-section — Claude Code skill: draft one paper section
A skill that drafts or reworks a single section of an academic paper, from abstract to conclusion. Useful when the research is done but the prose is not.
npx skills add lingzhi227/agent-research-skills --skill paper-writing-section -a claude-codeWhat paper-writing-section does
The skill handles one section at a time. You pass the section name as an argument: abstract, introduction, background, related-work, methods, experimental-setup, results, discussion or conclusion. An optional second argument points to a context file with the research plan, results or earlier sections.
Three steps. First the agent reads the existing .tex files, experiment logs and result files to pick up the title, contributions, methodology and key numbers. Then it writes the section, pulling section-specific tips from references/section-tips.md and leaving a short plan as a LaTeX comment above each paragraph. Finally it runs both passes from references/refinement-prompts.md: the first fixes unenclosed math, broken refs and hallucinated numbers, the second cuts redundancy and smooths transitions.
Output is a LaTeX fragment with no \documentclass and no preamble. Math sits in $...$ or \begin{equation}, figures are referenced with \ref{}, citations with \cite{}. Numbers in the text are supposed to match the experiment logs exactly, so thin logs mean manual checking. The skill sits in a chain: data-analysis, figure-generation and table-generation feed it, while latex-formatting and citation-management take over afterwards.
What it helps with
- draft a Methods section from an existing research plan
- write an Introduction with working citation keys
- rewrite Results so the numbers match the experiment logs
- strip repetition from a bloated Discussion
- finish a Conclusion with no TODO markers left
Example prompts for the agent
- write the methods section, context is in
plan.md - rewrite the introduction, keep the citations as they are
- compress the discussion and drop the repetition

Questions about paper-writing-section
How do I install paper-writing-section in Claude?
Run npx skills add lingzhi227/agent-research-skills --skill paper-writing-section -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/paper-writing-section/SKILL.md.
What does paper-writing-section do?
It writes one named section of an academic paper from your context, then runs the draft through two refinement passes: error fixing and compression with smoother transitions.
What do I need before running it?
Your .tex files, experiment logs and result files, since the agent reads them for methodology and numbers. You can also pass a path to a plan or earlier sections as the second argument.
