northflank — Claude Code skill: deploy and manage infra
A skill that teaches your agent to run Northflank workloads: services, jobs, managed databases and release flows through the API, CLI or JS client.
npx skills add northflank/skills --skill northflank -a claude-codeWhat northflank does
The skill lays out Northflank's building blocks for the agent: projects map to Kubernetes namespaces, services hold stateless workloads, add-ons cover managed databases, jobs run on a schedule or on demand. Secret groups, volumes and IaC templates are in there too, so the agent picks the right object instead of guessing.
Three routes are covered. A connected MCP server exposes guided tools such as deploy_app and deploy_job. The CLI rides on your existing northflank login session. The JS client @northflank/js-client and REST are for code you plan to keep. The hosted endpoint is https://mcp.northflank.com/mcp and expects Authorization: Bearer <team API token>. Installing the skill does not wire up MCP or hand over account access — that setup is separate, and credentials belong in the client's secret storage or your process environment, not in chat or a committed file.
Deletion gets its own section, and the skill insists on confirming each destructive call by name. That matters most for add-ons: dropping one wipes the database unless a recent backup exists, so the agent asks for the add-on name and whether a backup is in place first. Workload tokens pinned as a static environment value will not refresh on their own; you need a client that re-reads the mounted token or retries after an auth failure.
What it helps with
- deploy a service from Git or a prebuilt image
- attach a managed database as an add-on
- schedule a recurring job
- trace why a service or add-on keeps failing
- move secrets into a secret group instead of the repo
Example prompts for the agent
- Deploy the service from my repo into project
my-project - Create a managed database and wire it to my service
- Why does the
cleanupjob fail? Pull the logs and events

Questions about northflank
How do I install northflank in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add northflank/skills --skill northflank -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/northflank/SKILL.md.
What does the northflank skill do?
It gives the agent a working map of the platform: services and jobs, add-ons for databases, secrets, domains, templates, preview environments, pipelines and release flows. It covers the REST API, the northflank CLI and the @northflank/js-client package.
Do I need the MCP server for the skill to work?
No, but it helps: MCP provides guided deploy tools inside the agent. The connection is set up separately, at https://mcp.northflank.com/mcp with an Authorization: Bearer <team API token> header.
