git-workflow · netresearch — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Automates branch workflows, Conventional Commits, and pull request checks. Guides agents through safe rebase steps and CI gates using GitHub CLI.
npx skills add netresearch/git-workflow-skill --skill git-workflow -a claude-codeWhat git-workflow does
This skill establishes strict policies for Git repositories and pull requests. It enforces Conventional Commits, blocks direct pushes to main, and mandates --force-with-lease over raw force-pushing. Merges cannot proceed until CI checks pass, commits are signed, and all review threads are marked resolved.
Under the hood, the skill supplies Bash automation. Scripts such as pr-status.sh inspect merge gates, pr-merge.sh handles signed fast-forward merges, and pr-sweep.sh automates bulk reviews. It also inspects repositories for hooks configured with lefthook, husky, captainhook, or pre-commit.
The built-in pull request automation targets GitHub GraphQL directly, which means git and gh CLI are required prerequisites. If you run GitLab, you must rely on manual glab commands documented in the reference files.
What it helps with
- enforce Conventional Commits and atomic branch history
- prevent merges while review comments remain unresolved
- automate PR status checks and fast-forward merges
- detect and configure git hooks across repositories
Example prompts for the agent
- Check the current pull request gate using pr-status.sh
- Format my staged changes into a conventional commit
- Merge this PR with pr-merge.sh --self-reviewed
