morph-search — Claude Code skill: fast codebase search
A skill that searches your codebase through WarpGrep and edits files. Useful when grep on a large repo feels slow.
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill morph-search -a claude-codeWhat morph-search does
The skill hands your agent one tool for two jobs: find code and change a file. Search runs through WarpGrep, which the description claims is 20x faster than plain grep. Queries can be plain words like "authentication" or a regex such as def.*login.
Under the hood it is a script at scripts/mcp/morph_search.py, launched with uv run python -m runtime.harness. Flags: --search for the query, --path for the directory, --edit and --content to rewrite a file. The skill is allowed to use Bash and Read.
You need the morph MCP server in mcp_config.json plus a MORPH_API_KEY. No key, no search — check that first. For structural queries the author points to ast-grep: morph is faster on text and regex, but it does not parse code syntax.
What it helps with
- find every call site of a function
- run a regex across
./src - rewrite a file without opening an editor
- trace where a library gets imported from
- scan a large repo for a string
Example prompts for the agent
- find everything in the project related to authentication
- search for
def.*loginunder./src - write new content into
/path/to/file.py

Questions about morph-search
How do I install morph-search in Claude?
Run npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill morph-search -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/morph-search/SKILL.md.
What does morph-search do?
It searches your codebase through WarpGrep and can edit files. Queries work as plain text or regular expressions.
What does morph-search need to run?
The morph MCP server in mcp_config.json and a MORPH_API_KEY. Without them the script will not start.

# Morph Codebase Search
Fast, AI-powered codebase search using WarpGrep. 20x faster than traditional grep.
## When to Use
- Search codebase for patterns, function names, variables
- Find code across large codebases quickly
- Edit files programmatically
## Usage
### Search for code patterns
```bash
uv run python -m runtime.harness scripts/mcp/morph_search.py \
--search "authentication" --path "."
```
### Search with regex
```bash
uv run python -m runtime.harness scripts/mcp/morph_search.py \
--search "def.*login" --path "./src"
```
### Edit a file
```bash
uv run python -m runtime.harness scripts/mcp/morph_search.py \
--edit "/path/to/file.py" --content "new content"
```
## Parameters
| Parameter | Description |
|-----------|-------------|
| `--search` | Search query/pattern |
| `--path` | Directory to search (default: `.`) |
| `--edit` | File path to edit |
| `--content` | New content for file (use with `--edit`) |
## Examples
```bash
# Find all async functions
uv run python -m runtime.harness scripts/mcp/morph_search.py \
--search "async def" --path "./src"
# Search for imports
uv run python -m runtime.harness scripts/mcp/morph_search.py \
--search "from fastapi import" --path "."
```
## vs ast-grep
| Tool | Best For |
|------|----------|
| **morph/warpgrep** | Fast text/regex search (20x faster) |
| **ast-grep** | Structural code search (understands syntax) |
## MCP Server Required
Requires `morph` server in mcp_config.json with `MORPH_API_KEY`.
