mcp-deepwiki — Claude Code skill: DeepWiki docs for GitHub repos
This skill wires the DeepWiki MCP server into your agent so it can read documentation of public GitHub repositories and answer questions about their code.
npx skills add aahl/skills --skill mcp-deepwiki -a claude-codeWhat mcp-deepwiki does
The skill points the agent at the MCP server running at https://mcp.deepwiki.com/mcp. From there it can list the documentation sections of a repo, pull those sections, or ask a question about the codebase. Repos go in owner/repo form, such as facebook/react.
Calls run through npx -y mcporter call "${MCP_URL}.<tool>". Structure and contents need only repoName; a question adds question. Answers come from Ask Devin, which is AI-generated, so allow a minute or more of timeout. Set it too tight and the call dies before the reply arrives.
ask_question also accepts an array of repositories, up to 10 at once. The server covers public repositories, so private code never enters the question.
What it helps with
- list the docs structure of an unfamiliar repository
- fetch a wiki section for a GitHub project
- get an answer about open-source code grounded in its documentation
- compare how several repositories are put together in one request
Example prompts for the agent
- Show me the wiki structure for
facebook/react - Ask DeepWiki how routing works in this repository
- Ask about two repositories at once and compare their testing setup

Questions about mcp-deepwiki
How do I install mcp-deepwiki in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add aahl/skills --skill mcp-deepwiki -a claude-code. The skill then sits at ~/.claude/skills/mcp-deepwiki/SKILL.md.
What does mcp-deepwiki do?
It gives the agent access to the DeepWiki MCP server: the documentation outline of a repo, the wiki contents, and AI answers to code questions through Ask Devin.
Why does a DeepWiki request time out?
Ask Devin generates its answer with AI, and that takes a minute or longer. Give the call a generous timeout or it returns nothing.
