What macos-development does

The skill activates when you ask about macOS development practices, want a review of Swift code, or check a UI against HIG. It ships as a set of modules the agent reads on demand: coding-best-practices/ covers Swift 6+ and concurrency, architecture-patterns/ handles SOLID and modular design, swiftdata-architecture/ deals with schemas, queries and performance.

Platform topics live in their own folders. macos-tahoe-apis/ covers macOS 26 features, Apple Intelligence, MLX and Xcode 16. macos-capabilities/ is about sandboxing and entitlements, while appkit-swiftui-bridge/ explains wrapping AppKit views for SwiftUI. There is also ui-review-tahoe/ for Liquid Glass and accessibility checks, plus app-planner/ for planning a new app or auditing an existing one.

The skill is limited to Read, Glob, Grep and WebFetch, so it never edits your files. Ask it to rewrite code and you get advice instead of a patch. It runs in Claude, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode.

What it helps with

  • review Swift 6+ code and drop outdated idioms
  • design a SwiftData schema with model relationships
  • speed up SwiftData queries with better predicates
  • wrap an AppKit view in SwiftUI via NSViewRepresentable
  • check a UI against HIG and accessibility rules

Example prompts for the agent

  • review my project for Swift 6 and tell me what to rewrite
  • how should I model a SwiftData schema for notes with tags
  • review this screen for Liquid Glass and accessibility

How to install macos-development

1Skills CLI (Vercel)

Questions about macos-development

How do I install macos-development in Claude?

Run npx skills add rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --skill macos-development -a claude-code. The skill file then lands at ~/.claude/skills/macos/SKILL.md.

What does macos-development do?

It gives the agent a reference on macOS development: Swift 6+, SwiftUI, SwiftData, architecture patterns, AppKit-SwiftUI bridging and macOS 26 Tahoe APIs. The agent reads the module that fits your question.

Which tools can the skill use?

Only Read, Glob, Grep and WebFetch. It does not change code, so you get analysis and recommendations and apply the edits yourself.

# macOS Development Expert

Comprehensive guidance for macOS app development. This skill aggregates specialized modules for different aspects of macOS development.

## When This Skill Activates

Use this skill when the user:
- Asks about macOS development best practices
- Wants code review for macOS/Swift projects
- Needs help with SwiftUI, SwiftData, or AppKit
- Is implementing macOS 26 (Tahoe) features
- Wants UI/UX review against HIG
- Needs architecture guidance for macOS apps

## Available Modules

Read relevant module files based on the user's needs:

### coding-best-practices/
Swift 6+ code quality and modern idioms.
- `swift-language.md` - Modern Swift patterns
- `modern-concurrency.md` - async/await, actors, Sendable
- `data-persistence.md` - SwiftData, UserDefaults, Keychain
- `code-organization.md` - Project structure and modularity

## How to Use

1. Identify user's need from their question
2. Read relevant module files from subdirectories
3. Apply the guidance to their specific context
4. Reference Apple documentation when needed

## Example Workflow

**User asks about SwiftData performance:**
1. Read `swiftdata-architecture/performance.md`
2. Read `swiftdata-architecture/query-patterns.md` if relevant
3. Apply recommendations to their code
