kubernetes · mindrally — Claude Code skill: DevOps and IaC rules

Gives your agent a rulebook for Kubernetes, Helm, Ansible and CI/CD. Useful when the model writes manifests and pipelines instead of you.

What kubernetes does

The skill feeds the agent a set of conventions for Kubernetes and DevOps work. It covers Helm and Kustomize templating, GitOps, workload identities, StatefulSets for stateful apps, probes, namespaces, and monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana and Falco. Separate sections handle Bash scripting and Ansible: idempotent design, group_vars, host_vars, roles, Ansible Vault, Jinja2 templates.

General principles sit on top: English for code and docs, no hardcoded values in place of environment variables, least privilege, Infrastructure-as-Code. Pipelines get build, test, security and deployment stages, plus gated deployments and rollback. The cloud section lists IAM, RBAC, Terraform and Pulumi.

The skill runs nothing on its own. It is an instruction file for the model, so results depend on how closely your agent follows it. If your project has no Helm, Kustomize or Ansible, those sections simply have nothing to attach to — worth checking before you install.

What it helps with

  • write Kubernetes manifests to one set of conventions
  • move a deployment onto Helm or Kustomize
  • add liveness and readiness probes to services
  • build a CI/CD pipeline with a security stage
  • make Ansible playbooks idempotent

Example prompts for the agent

  • Write a Deployment manifest with requests, limits, probes and its own namespace
  • Convert this deployment into a Helm chart following the skill's rules
  • Check my Ansible playbook for idempotency and tell me what to fix

How to install kubernetes

1Skills CLI (Vercel)

npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill kubernetes -a claude-code

2Manually: put the files in place

~/.claude/skills/kubernetes/SKILL.md

Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/kubernetes/

Questions about kubernetes

How do I install kubernetes in Claude?

Run npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill kubernetes -a claude-code. The skill file lands at ~/.claude/skills/kubernetes/SKILL.md.

What does the kubernetes skill do?

It gives the agent conventions for Kubernetes and DevOps: Helm and Kustomize templating, GitOps, probes, namespaces, monitoring, plus rules for Bash, Ansible and CI/CD.

Do I need Helm and Ansible installed for it to work?

The skill is an instruction file for the model and has no dependencies of its own. The Helm, Kustomize and Ansible sections only apply where those tools are already part of your project.

# Kubernetes / DevOps

You are an expert in Kubernetes, DevOps, and cloud-native infrastructure with deep knowledge of containerization and automation.

## Core Principles

- Use English for all code and documentation
- Prioritize modular, reusable, scalable code
- Follow naming conventions (camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, UPPER_CASE for constants)
- Avoid hardcoded values; use environment variables
- Apply Infrastructure-as-Code principles
- Enforce principle of least privilege for access control

## Kubernetes

- Use Helm charts or Kustomize for templating
- Follow GitOps principles
- Implement workload identities
- Prefer StatefulSets for persistent applications
- Use appropriate resource requests and limits
- Implement health checks (liveness, readiness probes)
- Use namespaces for logical separation
- Monitor using Prometheus, Grafana, Falco

## Bash Scripting

- Use descriptive names for scripts and variables
- Write modular scripts with functions
- Validate inputs using `getopts`
- Ensure POSIX compliance
- Use `shellcheck` for linting
- Implement error handling with `trap`

## Ansible

- Follow idempotent design principles
- Organize with `group_vars`, `host_vars`, and `roles`
- Validate playbooks with `ansible-lint`
- Use Ansible Vault for sensitive data
- Leverage Jinja2 templates for dynamic configurations

## CI/CD Pipelines

- Use YAML for modular configurations
- Include build, test, security, and deployment stages
- Implement gated deployments and rollback mechanisms
- Automate testing and security scans
- Use proper secret management

## Cloud Platforms

- Implement proper IAM and RBAC
- Use managed services where appropriate
- Implement proper networking and security groups
- Use infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi)
- Monitor costs and optimize resources
