What uv does

This skill equips coding agents with command patterns for uv instead of traditional pip or poetry setups. It covers project initialization, standalone PEP 723 scripts, and interpreter switching. It replaces multiple legacy tools at once.

It also details deployment workflows, including pinned GitHub Actions configurations and a multistage Dockerfile designed around layer caching. Without uv installed and available on your system PATH, the skill halts execution.

What it helps with

  • set up reproducible Python dependencies and uv.lock
  • write a multistage Dockerfile with uv layer caching
  • configure GitHub Actions tests using astral-sh/setup-uv
  • migrate project commands from pip, poetry, or pyenv to uv

Example prompts for the agent

  • Migrate this repository dependencies from poetry to uv
  • Generate a multistage Dockerfile for my app using uv sync --frozen
  • Add httpx to script.py using PEP 723 metadata format
