github-actions — Claude Code skill: React Native CI/CD

Reusable GitHub Actions patterns to build React Native apps for iOS simulators and Android emulators in the cloud and download artifacts. Simplifies CI pipeline setup and scripted retrieval via gh CLI or REST API.

What github-actions does

The skill provides three building blocks: composite actions for iOS and Android that build the app and upload artifacts, plus a workflow template that runs both platforms in sync. Artifacts (.app.tar.gz for iOS, .apk for Android) become downloadable with stable IDs, enabling automation through gh run download or REST API calls.

Install with one command and specify your platform (claude-code, cursor, codex, etc.). The skill appears in the platform-specific directory: ~/.claude/skills/github-actions/SKILL.md for Claude Code, .github/skills/github-actions/SKILL.md for GitHub Copilot. Add the composite actions to your repo, wire them into .github/workflows/mobile-build.yml, trigger the workflow, and the agent can customize the build for your project.

What it helps with

  • Build a React Native iOS simulator artifact in GitHub Actions and download it
  • Automate Android APK builds in the cloud and make them retrievable
  • Run iOS and Android builds in one workflow without code duplication
  • Download GitHub Actions artifacts programmatically via gh or REST API

Example prompts for the agent

  • Set up a CI workflow that builds React Native for both iOS simulator and Android emulator using the provided composite actions
  • Download the artifact from the latest successful run: `gh run download <run-id> -n <artifact-name>`
  • Add the iOS composite action from the skill and build a `.app.tar.gz` artifact in GitHub Actions

How to install github-actions

1Skills CLI (Vercel)

Questions about github-actions

How do I install github-actions skill in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add callstackincubator/agent-skills --skill github-actions -a claude-code, then open ~/.claude/skills/github-actions/SKILL.md. For other platforms, change the flag: -a cursor for Cursor, -a codex for Codex, -a gemini-cli for Gemini CLI.

What does this skill provide?

Three production-ready components: composite actions for iOS and Android emulator builds and an end-to-end workflow that triggers both and uploads artifacts. This eliminates boilerplate and standardizes the build process.

How do I download artifacts after the build completes?

Use gh run download <run-id> with the -n <artifact-name> flag for a specific artifact, or query the REST API: GET /repos/{owner}/{repo}/actions/artifacts/{artifact_id}/{archive_format}. The skill includes examples of both approaches.

# GitHub Actions Build Artifacts

## Overview

Reusable GitHub Actions patterns to build React Native apps for iOS simulators and Android emulators in the cloud, then publish artifacts retrievable via `gh` CLI or GitHub API.

## When to Apply

Use this skill when:
- Creating CI workflows that build React Native simulator/emulator artifacts.
- Uploading iOS simulator and Android emulator installables from PRs or manual dispatch runs.
- Replacing local-only mobile builds with downloadable CI artifacts.
- Needing stable artifact IDs/names for scripted retrieval with `gh` or REST API.

## Quick Reference

1. Add composite actions from [gha-ios-composite-action.md][gha-ios-composite-action] and [gha-android-composite-action.md][gha-android-composite-action].
2. Wire them into `.github/workflows/mobile-build.yml` from [gha-workflow-and-downloads.md][gha-workflow-and-downloads].
3. Upload with `actions/upload-artifact@v4` and capture `artifact-id` output.
4. Download with `gh run download` or `GET /repos/{owner}/{repo}/actions/artifacts/{artifact_id}/{archive_format}`.
