What facts does

facts gives a capable engineer a tight summary of the current effort: only the facts that matter and how they affect existing or future parts of the system. It is not a full audit. The scope is whatever has been discussed or planned recently, or just built. Author is backnotprop, repo backnotprop/bro.

The skill ships as a single SKILL.md file. Its instruction is to keep every fact terse, direct and free of jargon, assuming the reader is new to this context but a competent engineer. Slogans and rhetorical flourishes are out.

One detail matters in practice: the frontmatter sets disable-model-invocation: true. The skill never fires on its own. You invoke it by typing $facts, and that is the only way it runs — so if you expect automatic briefings after each task, you will not get them.

What it helps with

  • get a short list of key facts before starting work
  • see how a decision affects code already written
  • learn what changed after a finished task
  • separate critical items from noise in the next phase plan
  • explain the gist of a task to a newcomer without jargon

Example prompts for the agent

  • $facts — what do I need to know before we start this phase?
  • $facts — what did we just build and what does it imply?
  • $facts on the current task, only the critical parts
