What elestio does

The skill covers how an agent should create and run services on Elestio: managed services, database clusters, CI/CD pipelines, backups, domains, firewall rules, volumes and billing. A decision tree inside splits deployment into three shapes — a managed service on its own VM, a replicated cluster, or a pipeline built from a catalog template. Picking the wrong shape is the most common way a deployment fails, so the tree is worth following as written.

One section warns about a specific trap. To run catalog software such as Vaultwarden, Redis or Metabase on a CI/CD target, the agent must call elestio cicd deploy-template, not elestio cicd create. The second one builds an empty pipeline: it deploys, then nothing actually runs, since ports, environment variables and install scripts from the template are never picked up. deploy-template reads the template's elestio.yml from the elestio-examples repository and configures the pipeline from it.

You need an Elestio account with an API token, plus one of two tools: the official CLI at version 1.4.0 or newer (Node.js 18+, installed with npm install -g elestio) or the Elestio MCP connector. On CLI 1.3.0 and older, roughly half the catalog cannot be deployed as a pipeline at all — upgrading the package beats falling back to the dashboard. Account signup, payment and approval stay manual; the skill does not touch them.

What it helps with

  • deploy PostgreSQL or Redis on a dedicated VM
  • build a database cluster with replication and failover
  • run catalog software as a CI/CD pipeline
  • check which services are running and what they cost
  • set up backups, domains and firewall rules for a service

Example prompts for the agent

  • Deploy PostgreSQL in project my-project
  • I need a Redis cache — spin up a managed service
  • Run Vaultwarden from the catalog on CI/CD target vm-12345

Questions about elestio

How do I install elestio in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add elestio/elestio-skill --skill elestio -a claude-code. The skill lands in ~/.claude/skills/elestio/SKILL.md.

What does the elestio skill do?

It teaches the agent to deploy and manage services on Elestio: managed services, clusters, CI/CD pipelines, backups, domains, firewall, volumes and billing. It works through the official CLI or the MCP connector.

What do I need before using it?

An Elestio account with an API token, and either CLI version 1.4.0 or newer on Node.js 18+, or the Elestio MCP connector. Signup and payment are not handled by the skill.
