What editor does

The skill connects your coding agent to Diffusion Studio for media analysis, generation, and timeline editing. Operations execute through the diffusion CLI or its alias dapi. Each command corresponds to an MCP tool, such as diffusion grab. Command options are listed via diffusion <command> --help, and connected MCP tools follow the exact same interface.

Guidance documents ship directly inside the application bundle to match your installed version. On macOS, documentation sits in Diffusion Studio.app/Contents/Resources/docs. On Windows, files reside in %LOCALAPPDATA%\DiffusionStudio\app-<version>\resources\docs. Every session starts by referencing skills/editor.md. Never edit these files directly. The bundle also contains JSX references, runnable examples, and brand assets.

Sessions run in the background with diffusion open --background <dir>, followed by diffusion window show to display the timeline window. Projects will break if kept inside folders synced by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive. Cloud sync clients evict media to placeholders and upload half-written renders. Keep all working directories on a local drive.

What it helps with

  • analyze video, audio, and image assets
  • generate media using AI models
  • compose video edits in Diffusion Studio
  • run editing sessions in the background via CLI

Example prompts for the agent

  • Inspect the video assets in my local directory and draft a composition in Diffusion Studio
  • Open the project in background mode using diffusion open --background ./project
  • Bring the Diffusion Studio window to the front with diffusion window show

Questions about editor

How to install editor in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add diffusionstudio/skills --skill editor -a claude-code in your terminal. This registers the editor skill for Claude Code.

What does the editor skill do?

It inspects video, audio, and images, generates assets with AI, and edits compositions through the Diffusion Studio app.

Why should projects avoid cloud-synced folders?

Sync clients such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud Drive replace footage with placeholders and create conflicting file copies during rendering. Working in a regular local folder prevents these issues.

The guidance for this skill ships with the Diffusion Studio app, so it always matches the installed version. Read it from there and trust it over memory; it belongs to the app, so never edit it.

The docs live inside the app bundle at `Diffusion Studio.app/Contents/Resources/docs` (usually under `/Applications`); on Windows, at `%LOCALAPPDATA%\DiffusionStudio\app-<version>\resources\docs`. Start with `skills/editor.md` and follow it for the rest of the session. It links to the tool and JSX reference, guides, runnable examples, and the brand kit in the same folder.

Use the tools through the `diffusion` CLI (alias `dapi`). The docs use MCP tool names, and each one is a command: `grab` is `diffusion grab`, and `diffusion <command> --help` lists its options. If the MCP tools are connected, they work the same.

Work with the app in the background (`diffusion open --background <dir>`), then show the result with `diffusion window show`.

Don't open a `<dir>` in a cloud-synced folder (iCloud Drive, including a synced Desktop or Documents, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive). Sync clients evict media to placeholders, upload half-written renders and leave conflict copies. Use a local folder outside the synced tree.

If `diffusion` or the app is missing, read [installation.md](references/installation.md).
