eda-schematics — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Automates KiCad schematic creation, symbol placement, and net wiring. It organizes hierarchical sheets using datasheets and design constraints.
npx skills add l3wi/claude-eda --skill eda-schematics -a claude-codeWhat eda-schematics does
This skill handles schematic capture in KiCad .kicad_sch format. It extracts power topologies and thermal constraints from docs/design-constraints.json, pairing them with parts cataloged in docs/component-selections.md. Depending on design complexity, the agent splits the circuit into hierarchical sheets and positions symbols on standard 1.27 mm grid coordinates.
Execution relies on dedicated kicad-sch MCP server tools. The agent wires voltage rails first. Next, it attaches decoupling capacitors to power pins and adds labels for buses like SPI or I2C. Once finished, it records electrical rule checks and remaining unrouted pins inside docs/schematic-status.md.
Without an active kicad-sch MCP server and pre-assigned LCSC part numbers, this skill cannot operate because it has no underlying tools to draw connections or position parts.
What it helps with
- generate multi-sheet
.kicad_schfiles from specifications - position symbols on schematic sheets using grid coordinates
- wire power rails and data buses following reference designs
- log missing pins and electrical rule violations in status files
Example prompts for the agent
- Build the power section in
hardware/power.kicad_schusingdocs/design-constraints.json - Place the microcontroller symbol and connect decoupling capacitors
- Check for floating pins and write the review to
docs/schematic-status.md

Questions about eda-schematics
How to install eda-schematics in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add l3wi/claude-eda --skill eda-schematics -a claude-code. The skill file is placed in ~/.claude/skills/eda-schematics/SKILL.md.
What is eda-schematics used for?
It manages automated KiCad schematic drafting through MCP tool calls, placing components, routing nets, and tracking review checklists.
What prerequisites are needed before running the skill?
You need docs/component-selections.md with LCSC codes, docs/design-constraints.json, reference manuals in datasheets/, and the kicad-sch MCP server.
